I believe children thrive when engaged in cross-disciplinary learning activities that are relevant, meaningful, and fun. Treeside Charter school’s vision creates this kind of learning environment. I have developed integrated educational experiences in the deserts and mountains of Utah and while living abroad in Spain, Italy, Germany, England, and Morocco. These immersive learning environments naturally integrated math, science, reading, writing, history and the arts as we focused on experiencing, documenting, and learning from the natural world and the traditions, artistic contributions, and histories of other cultures. I am a maker and love working with my hands and believe that creating is good for the soul. I have a degree from Brigham Young University in Fashion Merchandising and love to design and sew clothing and quilts and to make a range of hand-crafted goods. I bake artisanal breads including sourdough made from a starter created with grapes, water, and flour and make cold-process soap using natural colorants derived from herbs, spices and clays. I am a graduate of the USU Extension Master Gardener Program and love to study plants interacting together in symbiotic relationships. I have helped students learn through the identification and documentation of local plants, fungi, rocks, minerals, and ancient fossils of Utah. I speak Spanish and am married to an artist and have 4 children, and we live in a beautiful canyon in the mountains and love to get outside as often as possible.
